#0069, Completed 2024

A meditation on material, waste and material histories- the cylinder bench has a perfect modularity to build vertically with. Historically, the concrete cylinders were relegated to garden bed edges weaving this way and that against their nature. We celebrate them as a purposeful bench for reading and sun-bathing on. We loved the materiality of the cylinders and how each one was truly unique in their composition and patina. When stacked vertically we can think about how each one was poured, where each one was laid. We’ll never know who carefully crafted the mold, or who mixed and poured the concrete into that mold, but we’re just happy to preserve a bit of material history in Lockwood - a community confronting rampant development.
